Crystal became the Centre Director of the Coquitlam location in August 2009. Her Sylvan career began in 2006 as an instructor and she was quickly promoted to Centre Director and managed the Tsawwassen and White Rock locations before moving to Coquitlam. She obtained her B.A. (Child and Youth Study) with a major in Early Childhood Education from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and her B.Ed. (Elementary) from Edith Cowen University in Perth, Australia. She is devoted to helping student achieve their academic goals with confidence.
Teaching runs in Mimi’s blood. Her family includes many teachers and Mimi suspected she would one day be one, too. This notion solidified into a goal when Mimi became a peer tutor in Grade 10. She saw the effectiveness of one-on-one tutoring and how unbelievably rewarding it could be. "In my experience in the classroom, I’ve seen how struggling students need that extra time, but in a class of 30, you can’t help one without ignoring the other 29," she says. "I looked into tutoring jobs and found Sylvan." And it's been a perfect fit. Mimi began working at Sylvan as a teacher in November 2011 after receiving a B.Sc. and a B.Ed. in Sciences. With her bubbly personality and desire to truly get to know our Sylvan students and families, she rose quickly to the position of Director of Education at Coquitlam Sylvan. "Everyone has the potential to do better," says Mimi. "They just need the guidance and time."
Megan was promoted to Director of Education in the Coquitlam in February 2010. Megan began her career at Sylvan as an instructor in 2009. She was a teacher on call for the Coquitlam and Maple Ridge school districts for a few years before joining Sylvan full time. Her background includes a B.A. (History & English) from SFU and a B.Ed. (Secondary) from UBC. Megan has an infectious personality, which motivates students of all ages to become lifelong learners. She is willing to go the extra mile to help each and every family achieve their goals.
